Can Your Garden Handle Killer Zombies?

Not all garden plants are sophisticated enough to fight off waves of zombies, but PopCap has made sure that their brand of video game plants can.

Zombies… really? Before you get all anti-video game on me hear me out. Plants vs. Zombies is a brand new kind of fun from PopCap that gardeners, kids, and zombie lovers alike will enjoy. I think it’s cool that gardeners have a nice plant-minded video game available now.

I recently got a review copy of this game. I’ll be posting my full review soon, but as a heads up, my son Cedar has already given it his eight-year-old stamp of approval. In my review, I’ll go over what I think about adult play value.

In this new G-Rated, family-friendly video action-strategy game, a mob of growing and fun-loving zombies is about to invade your home, and your only defense is an arsenal of 49 zombie-zapping plants. You can use peashooters, wall-nuts, cherry bombs and more to take on the wave of zombie invaders before they reach your house. The perfect game for gardeners when it rains – be in the garden, but you know, not really IN the garden.

Other fun game facts…

  • Each zombie has cool special skills, which keeps you thinking fast. The better gardener you are (i.e. the faster you plant), the better equipped you are to fight off the zombie plague.  There’s a limited supply of greens and seeds so careful planning is key.
  • Obstacles like a setting sun, creeping fog and a swimming pool add to the challenge.
  • Play five game modes: Adventure, Mini-Games, Puzzle, Survival, plus the stress-free Zen Garden.
  • Your journey allows you to battle 50 levels of Adventure mode — through day, night and fog, in a swimming pool and on the rooftop
  • Zombie types include pole-vaulters, snorkelers and “Zomboni” drivers.
  • Earn 49 powerful perennials and collect coins to buy a pet snail, power-ups and more.
  • Use sweet (but odd) mutant flowers, vines, trees and other foliage with zombie-combating powers and abilities to save the day.

Plants vs. Zombies costs US$19.95 and is available online for PC and Mac at PopCap.

Look for my review soon or go ahead and take a sneak peek at the game via some fun videos.
