In Canada, there is a green event known as Environment Day and many organizations are helping out in making sure that this pushes through. After all, during environment day in Region of Peel, all residents are given the chance to throw away any unwanted material the green way.

Maja Prentice is a councilor of the area and is the current head of the Waste Management Subcommittee. She shares, “Environment Day helps raise awareness of our waste management programs and services, and gives residents the chance to learn how they can properly divert materials from the waste stream.”

Dwayne Cromwell, a supervisor of Waste Operations, also adds, “Environment Day is a great opportunity for Peel residents to conveniently dispose unwanted items, such as paint, batteries, wood, electronic equipment and much more. Gently used items that are in good condition can also be donated to Goodwill at the events.”

This year, Environment Day falls on May 12th. If you are in the area, why don’t you join up? You can drop off items like these:

  • Hazardous waste from your household
  • Goods that can be used again
  • Scrap metal
  • Used tires
  • Used consumer electronic goods
  • Paper
  • Mattresses
