I'm really sorry for your losses, Marijke :( Pets are indeed a huge part of many of our lives, and seeing them suffer and losing them is just as painful as it would be if it were a family member. They are family, after all.

This is definitely an issue close to my heart. Since I know you, I shared in your heart-break when you lost Oscar and Dee.

I also lost 2 greyhounds within 3 months of each other to this horrible disease, Benny in January 2006 just shy of his 11th birthday, and Yoshi a fes months later at age 11. There are so many dogs that have lost their lives way to early because of this, many that I know only from the online forum Greytalk. A close friend of mine lost her Great Dane in May of this year to bone cancer. It's heartbreaking to lose either human or animal companions to this disease, all way before their time. At the same time, I marvel at the brave souls who fight this disease, and enjoy life despite the odds, and often with amputation and undergoing the side effects of chemo therapy. I hope we hear of these journeys as well, and of continued efforts to find better and more lasting treatment, such as Dr. Cuoto's research at OSU.

Thank your for starting this topic, as hard as I imagine it was for you to post it. I hope this will become a place of hope and support.
