Cardboard boxes for Christmas

It’s rapidly approaching the time where I at least start to think about Christmas gifts (I may not actually BUY them until December 20th, but I start thinking in mid-November), especially since every flyer we get has a ton of toys aplashed across it.

On the other hand, the latest made in China recall has my head spinning. Lead paint is bad enough, but toys made with a chemical that turns into a date rape drug if it’s swallowed?! Luckily my kids are both too young to have been interested in them but it still freaks me out*.

Why? Why on earth would this happen?

At this point I’m ready to just throw my hands up, give up on all toys, and just give them cardboard boxes and some unbleached cloth made from fibers we grow ourselves in organic soil with no pesticides, just so I don’t have to worry about what they’re playing with.

That being said, I’m honestly having a hard time figuring out what to get them for Christmas. It doesn’t help that my youngest has a birthday in nine days, so the only two things I’ve thought of will be birthday gifts anyway. What are you getting for your kids? Let’s inspire each other!

*To lighten the horror of this recall, Gayla made me giggle.

My husband lost his job as the jobs were moving to China. he is not a toymaker but a teethmaker. He makes crowns and bridges, etc. Just think what is going in people’s mouths that has little quality control!
