Caulk image transfers by Judy Wood

Judy Wood of Glasswood Studio sent me this lovely image, which incorporates image transfers!

Judy writes:

The transfers on this piece are transparent caulking transfers, and the collage is done on stretched canvas. Total size is 20″ x 24″. I use either Golden gel medium or caulking for my transfers, using the method where I allow the gel or caulking to dry totally, then I rub off the excess paper.

I use collaged digital photos, original art elements and whatever else I feel is needed. The transfers here are the map elements, some of the trees that show in the detail, and possibly the foal image in the upper left. By the time I have finished one of these, I’m not totally sure myself what method I used for what area!! This is a work for an online show called The Artist’s Muse (sponsored by the Equine Art Guild, hence the horse theme), and is a tribute to my horse Alpac and his history. I have a similar one underway featuring my dogs for the dog version of this topic.

I find I am using transfers more often in my current work, and plan to continue my explorations.

What kind of Caulk do you use . THere are many many different kinds so to know which you are using would be very helpful Also do you put the caulk on the canvas and then lay down your image or do you put the caulk on the image remove the paper and then attach the image to the canvas some other way ?

Inquiring minds want to know .
    Thanks

    Hi Heather,
Judy might not get your question posted here…you can follow the links in the post to her website and email her directly if you wish. I have posted a tutorial today (03-27-07) which answers all of these questions as far as I do caulk transfers. Here is the permalink:

Wow! I was delighted to see Judy’s latest homage to Alpac, her beloved horse. Judy has been one of my best friends for more than 30 years, so it was such a delight to see her work here on your blog!
    Small world!
AND- I love what you are doing with the caulk images! Fab!

Well that is a nice bit of serendipity!
