Cell Phone Not Liked to Brain Cancer

Previous study has already found no clear connection of cell phones (mobiles) to brain cancer.

Now, UK’s largest investigation on the possible health risks from mobile telephone technology found nothing.

No biological or adverse health effects has been found connected with long term use of mobile phones. The investigation’s results was so sure they said there is no use of further investigate the issue.

According to Professor Lawrie Challis, Chairman of MTHR (Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research) :

“This is a very substantial report from a large research programme. The work reported today has all been published in respected peer-reviewed scientific or medical journals.

The results are so far reassuring but there is still a need for more research, especially to check that no effects emerge from longer-term phone use from adults and from use by children.”

I’ve been using mobile phones for some ten years now and do not really think of any adverse health effects of its usage.

What do you think?

Although I have heard many anecdotal stories of cell phones causing cancer, I believe it is nothing more than an urban legend. Both the studies you cited as well as a massive Danish study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute debunks the myth that cell phones cause cancer.

The Danish study included a group of 420,095 Danish cell phone users. The study examined the cancer rates of cell phone users that began cell phone use from 1982 to 1995 and follows their cancer rates through 2002. Denmark was an ideal place for this study because they keep a national cancer registry. This is a system that logs and tracks every person who is inflicted with the deadly disease.

In the study, cancer appeared in only 14,249 people in the research group, as apposed to 15,001 cases that appeared in the general population. According to an article in ars technical, “Cell phone users had no higher risk of brain tumors, acoustic neuromas, salivary gland tumors, eye tumors, or leukemias, though the study’s authors note that ongoing research is needed to make sure the results hold true for those who have used a cell phone for more than 10 years.”

This is by far the largest most comprehensive piece of evidence to combat the urban legend that cell phones cause cancer. Among the 56,000 cell phone users that were watched for more than a decade, the research concluded there is absolutely no increased risk of cancer due to cell phone use. Good news to the more than 219 million Americans that use cell phones regularly.

I am outraged at my recent discovery of the potential risks of cell phones and especially cordless phones. Being electronics ignorant and depending on the government and the news, I trusted cell phones and my older children use them. My youngest has been using the cordless daily talking with friends and is now suffering daily headaches. I am stressed out of my mind with this recent news/studies indicating health risks, especially the brain. Couldn’t someone at least have warned for the children not to use these things. Myself, being a realtor have racked up way more hours for 13 years than the average person. I’ve suffered a lot of strange health problems, probably the cell and who knows what else will come. Now, the stress of worrying for my children will most likely kill me. Doesn’t anyone care?? All this news that it’s all ok when it’s not ok. Cell phones everywhere glued to people’s heads. I just cannot believe it…and still with all the recent articles, no news, no warnings. At the very least, protect the young. God help us. He’s the only one who can.
Pray for my children if you read this. I’ll pray for everyone.
