CFS – All In The Mind

There is a really interesting podcast about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome on the radio program All In The Mind, which is aired on ABC Radio National. I urge you all to listen to it. I don’t want to ruin it for you, by talking too much about it. However, I will provide you with the vague summary that ABC Radio National provided, regarding yesterday’s broadcast.
An exhaustion like none other, disturbed and unrefreshing sleep, aching limbs, cognitive blur – often for many years. The physical impact is immense. Despite this, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome remains difficult to biologically and medically define, and to treat – even for those most specialized in the condition. World-leading researchers discuss the ongoing challenges and debates, the quest for a diagnostic test, and recent genetic and immunological research.
Like I said, the summary is quite generic. However, the podcast touched upon some fairly interesting issues. Certainly, ones that I haven’t really thought too much about.
In case some of you have a problem following the interview (I spaced out a little near the end), a written transcript will be available on Thursday. You can listen to the podcast now, right here.

**special thanks to Barry for bringing this to my attention.

No, please, ruin it for us! Then we won’t have to listen to the whole thing. Some of us are busy discussing over Paris Hilton’s mental state!
No No No No… It’s an interesting interview! And if I had to sit through 31 minutes of it, so do you.
Besides, you can do both…listen to the podcast, and discuss Paris Hilton’s breakdown.
Of course, you could wait until thursday, when the written transcripts are published.
However, I will tell you that there is a psychiatrist who was interviewed, who suffered and recovered from CFS….and she was fairly interesting. although, she couldn’t tell you how or why she recovered. Anyway, she now treats quite a few CFS patients in her practice.
Soooo, she recovered spontaneously and now thinks she can treat people with psychology? Makes sense… \:|
(and yes, this is a thinly veiled attempt to get you to explain what was on the show because I really have better things to do. When someone comes up with a cure I’ll listen to the show!)
Nice try
Fine, then I won’t tell which sex toy has been proven to relieve CFS muscle pain…
thanks for that.
i just spit tea all over my laptop.
Oh no, it’s not like that! It’s an, er, off-label use.
you are just full of surprises today.
handcuffs, sex toys. what’s next?
you don’t have a little chamber of torture in your basement do you?
Well, I do have black boots… You’re not gonna tell me what was on that show, are you? Well then I guess my muscle pain secret goes with me to the dungeon, I mean, grave…
The podcast was a bunch of professionals talking about the illness…and the different ways it can be looked at.
I found it pretty interesting, and worthwhile. Wait until thursday, you can print out the transcript and read it for yourself.
They did mention that a test will be available in the next year or two…which makes me think that if a test to diagnose CFS is that close, than a cure isn’t that far behind.
But maybe that thinking is a little Pollyanna- ish.
OK your turn….
That’s it? Shoot. Well, my secret is the heavy-duty Wahl 8-in-1 vibrator. It has a really powerful deep vibration setting that is awesome for getting rid of lactic acid buildup. It really works wonders, whether it’s general muscle fatigue or post-exertional soreness. The vibrator is a bit heavy to hold, but it only takes a couple of minutes (much faster than manual massage…). It’s really amazing how it takes away the legs-like-lead feeling. It’s excellent for a quick pick-me-up before going out, or to relax muscles before sleep. It ranks up there with my TDP lamp as my favourite gizmo.
that store is at the bottom of commercial drive, not too far away from me. if i ever get the courage to go into that store, i will talk to them about the benefits of their “products” for people with pain issues.
look for it in an upcoming post.
the podcast was a little bit more than that…you don’t actually think i would give away all of its secrets…you still should listen to it, you may come away with something different than me.
The Wahl is probably the only thing they have powerful enough to, er, do the job. It also has a convenient right-angle shape; the elongated vibrators would be awkward to handle, and a little too obvious to use in polite company!
I’m afraid I will be too busy, uh, relieving my muscle pain, to listen to the show. Sorry!
I suppose relieving muscle pain via a sex tool would be more immediately satisfying than listening to a podcast about CFS and how its related to the brain:)
However, just know that the radio session was an interesting one. Australia is not exactly known for being front-runners in the fight against CFS, and to hear this interview, it makes you feel like things may be changing there.
You two are hilarious. Thanks for the late-night pick- me-up humor. And for the muscle pain relief tip website!
erm, you are welcome.
