Chocolate as a Journal Prompt

Chocolate as a Journal Prompt

Chocolate is one of the items I’m trying my best to avoid lately. So, when I had a serious craving I started looking at Chocolate Bytes. Oh my, what a lovely visual feast. Although, my chocolate craving wasn’t exactly satisfied, the urge to consume large amounts of the stuff was certainly less than when my craving began.

Looking and reading about all that chocolate got me thinking that another way to overcome my craving for chocolate might simply be to write about it in my journal. I used the prompt from Creativity Portal prompt generator Chocolate is… for my own journal writing entry today and was delighted by the way I felt after my journal writing session. It was almost as good as devouring the chocolate in real life. I was able to indulge my other senses and appreciate chocolate in completely new way.

I hope you use this journal writing prompt to write in your journal today. Please leave any comments in the section below.

I think this is such an interesting way of handling the situation. I’ve tried something similar in the past. Though looking at pictures of food usually just makes me hungrier lol. Instead what I do is allow myself to eat what I’m craving, but not inhale a bunch of it. By having just a little and eating it slowly the taste actually registers with my taste buds and helps satisfy the craving a bit. If I still want more when I’m done I remind myself that I’m absolutely free to have more. As much as I want in fact. Just not right at that moment. By spacing it out I prevent myself from gorging and adding on any extra pounds :) .

  2. Hi Toddmen,
Yeah, for me just looking can take the edge off a craving. I suppose it’s got something to do with being a cook, which I was when younger. I got so used to handling the food I would feel as if I’d eaten. I like your method, too. Really enjoying the chocolate is what it’s all about and not just stuffing our faces. Thanks so much for your comment. ;-)

That’s a really great idea. And, it’s fat free. I never thought of doing this, but I’ll have to try it the next time I get a craving to check my emails!

  4. Hi Kim,
Lol, thanks for letting me know you liked the idea. Let me know how it works with the email craving. ;-)
