Choosing Colors for Quilts

Everyone has favorite color schemes they like to incorporate into quilts for themselves. Some quilters find it easier to combine colors into attractive combinations while others are baffled.

If we look at pictures and patterns, we realize, “Oh, yes. That’s a great combination of colors. The designer has even worked in colors I don’t particularly like with my favorites. It looks great.”

How can we develop striking color schemes ourselves? By having some understanding of colors, where they’re placed on the color wheel, and how they might be combined.

Some basics about color can be found at www.quiltadventures.com/inspcolor.htm. Or go to the web site, click on Inspiration, then Color Wheel.

You also can type into your search engine, “Quilt Color Combinations,” and find numerous sites where color is explained. This will make it easier for you to find pleasing combinations for your quilts and hangings, whether they’re your favorite colors or not.
