Christmas Away

Kerri’s brother just headed to the Middle East earlier this week. He is leaving behind a wife and son. On the one hand it seems a bit cruel for him to depart only days before Christmas, but we know it is thus so that another soldier who has been away for twelve months or more might get home in time to see his or her own family at Christmas this year.

It’s got me thinking about the many families around the world who will be apart this Christmas while one or more members are serving on a military tour for one nation or another. Regardless of what we think about any particular war or even war in general, perhaps we can agree on the following: May soldiers everywhere return safely to their families. Peace on earth, and goodwill toward all.

I’d like to open up the comments below for holiday prayers and greetings to loved ones who will be absent from home this Christmas season.

  1. Kerri says:

Love, joy and hope for my brother, and for his son and wife who are without him this Christmas. Joy and comfort for my mom, who is far from one of her children this Christmas. Hope, and comfort for the many who will be without one of their beloved for this and every Christmas to come.

  2. I pray that all of the troops will return safely to their loved ones. I pray that they’ll know that they’re missed and that we haven’t forgotten what they’re doing, that their morale will be high, and that God would grant our leaders wisdom.

  3. Cyndi L says:

I pray especially for George S’s safe return to his wife and new baby daughter. But I pray for safety for all of them and for the wisdom they will need to do their jobs well.

  4. kellys says:

I pray for a special hedge of protection so that all soldiers on all sides will be able to go home. I really want things to be much calmer.

  5. I just found out my cousin will be home next month. Yay! He has been in Iraq for a very long time. He was able to come home for a few weeks this past summer though. I pray that everyone is safe.
