Researchers at Duke University say that acupuncture is better than Aspirin and other over-the-counter medications to treat chronic headaches.
Their study, which involved almost 4000 patients with several different types of headaches (migraines, chronic headaches, tension headaches, and more), showed at 62% of those who underwent acupuncture experienced pain relief after five or six visits but only 45% of those who took medications did.

By chance is there a link for further information?
I’m going through pretty aggressive (for me!) chiropractic and acupuncture. I’m retired on disability from Meniere’s Syndrome and Migraine.
I’m much better overall but can’t tell if it’s from the acupuncture or the chiropractics. But, I’ll take better overall health any day of the week!
It’s only an abstract, but this may help: http://snurl.com/71lfb [www_anesthesia-analgesia_org]
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks bunches!
I’m not an expert at this, but it looks like a review was done of past studies. Am I reading it correctly?
Rhetorical, but if this information has been out there, why have doctors not told us I wonder?
Yup, you’re right. REviews of literature are done regularly because with so many studies out there, some small, some big, sometimes the information gets lost, particularly if most of the studies are smaller or not known.
I suspect in cases like this, that many of hte studies weren’t considered to be high quality (meaning randomized, placebo, controlled study) so individually, the don’t say much. but if gathered into one larger study, the findings may be a bit stronger.
Thank you so much, hon! Makes perfect sense.
Very interesting indeed! This could help so many who suffer from bad headaches. I am enjoying reading all this new info on acupuncture and its benefits.
