Classical music announces Ottawa newborns

July 23, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

If you’re visiting the Ottawa Hospital, in Ottawa, Canada, as you hear the intercom in the background paging different doctors or calling emergency codes, you may just hear the tinkling of Johannes Brahm’s lullaby every so often. The hospital has begun playing 12 seconds of the lullaby whenever a baby is born in the hospital – twice if twins are born.

You can read the story here at the Globe and Mail site: Ottawa newborns announced by a few bars of Brahms.

They play a little chime for all babies born between 8a – 8p at the local women’s hospital. It’s cute and you can hear just how busy the day was.
