Clean Freak Genius

When I got grew up I vowed not to be like my mother in certain areas. I now realize there are WAY worse people to be, but back then that’s where I was. Basically, I didn’t appreciate all the harping and nagging she did about picking up my stuff and cleaning up after myself. Calm down, what’s the big deal? I used to think.
I lived alone for a long time and rebelled against my mother’s cleanliness with a slightly messy house. But, then it was my mess and I cleaned it up.
I was talking to a woman who has a notoriously clean house. She has a family very similar to my own and even works outside the home. I’ve never been able to figure out how she does it. So I asked her.
How much time do you spend cleaning the house?
I never clean the house. I probably haven’t vacuumed in a month.
Well, I don’t understand how your house is always clean then.
They’re scared I’ll lose it on them. I flipped out about every single thing that ever got left out. Every smudge on the bathroom counter and sock on the floor, I freaked out about it. They’re afraid I’ll flip out, so they pick up after themselves.
She’s a freaking genius!

You know, that would have completely the opposite effect on me. It would just give me something else to rebel against.
