Codeine may harm breastfed babies

Codeine is one of the medications that doctors often prescribe for new mothers who are having pain that can’t be controlled by over-the-counter medications. It’s been long thought that it was one of the safer medications to give to women who are breastfeeding their babies.

New studies are showing that while some babies may not be affected, others may be harmed by this codeine. Here is one article that reports the latest research: Study finds codeine harmful to some breast-fed babies
