Coffee is this mom’s best friend

This morning, I couldn’t help but think about Steve’s entry about coffee. Although I admire his decision to switch from a pot of coffee to tea, I don’t think I could hack it. I’m not a huge coffee drinker myself, usually limiting myself to two cups. Three cups come with a risk of queasiness and more than that will cause me to start shaking.
I tried to give up coffee in the past. My last attempt was about 9 years ago; during the week I would drink that imitation cereal coffee at work, and I would have a cup or two of real coffee on a Saturday morning with a group of friends that met every weekend for brunch. That Saturday coffee always hit me in a way that I imagine crack hits an addict. I would go from zero to hyper in about 60 seconds. Once brunch was over I would immediately need to go walk around downtown Montreal, trying to burn off my caffeine buzz.
Now that I’m over eight years back on coffee (even when I was pregnant, I still drank one cup), I don’t get the coffee high any more. I know I would feel the withdrawal heavily though, especially on mornings like this one. My alarm clock went off at 6:15 and thus began another fun morning of convincing my daughter that yes indeed she IS going to school today. I don’t think I could have faced the barely-light morning, the delay tactics of an almost-five-year-old, or the drop-off at school without my first coffee. I drank it while coercing her to eat, then I drank a second cup with my breakfast after I returned home. Now, an hour after that second cup, I still think I would prefer to be sleeping, but I feel pleasantly conscious and feel like I might possibly be able to juggle doing my work and caring for my toddler.
Maybe. I might go sniff the coffee container though, if I start feeling drowsy.
What’s your morning beverage of choice? Coffee? Tea? Cola? Or are you an anti-caffeine drinker?
(That’s my actual coffee mug in that photo. Sums up my feelings about mornings perfectly.)

your coffee mug is hilarious! Hi I’m Allena at parentingdiva.com, just trying to get out and meet other mommy bloggers. I have two big cups of coffee every morning. I went to one small when I was pregnant, but who cares- when you’re pregnant you get to take naps without an excuse
I have you bookmarked!
Coffee puts the system under the strain of metabolizing a deadly acid-forming drug, depositing its insoluble cellulose, which cements the wall of the liver, causing this vital organ to swell to twice its proper size. In addition, coffee is heavily sprayed. (Ninety-two pesticides are applied to its leaves.) Diuretic properties of caffeine cause potassium and other minerals to be flushed from the body.

And if you drink decaf you wont want to miss this special FREE report on the Dangers of Decaf available at http://www.soyfee.com
I love your mug. I love coffee and tea also, but too much coffee gives me palpitations, so I gave it up. That didn’t work, so I went to drinking two cups a day. I didn’t like that either, because I ended up with too much morning at the end of my coffees, so I invented homeopathic coffee. I just gradually replaced “caf” coffee with “decaf” until I was down to about a cup’s worth of decaf in a whole pot. So I can drink cup after cup and not get jittery. Works for me.
Oh, I guess it helps that my kids learn at home, so the only morning rush is to the toaster when we all want bagels at once. LOL.
Shine On,
Lill
