Wow. Local news this time around. :(

Well, local-ish. Grand Junction’s a good ways out from Denver, but it’s the principle of the thing. At any rate, stuff like this shouldn’t happen to anyone, anywhere.

The story below says memorial fund has been established in Jacob Grabe’s name. Contributions can be made to the Jacob Grabe Memorial Fund at any Alpine Bank in the Grand Valley [CO].

I thought that people might be interested in this story, because it tells a little more about Jacob and his family life–described as being “very, very smart”, who ran track and participated in his school’s fundraising.

    Tragic.

  6. Today’s Grand Junction Free Press notes that Jacob Grabe had Asperger’s Syndrome and quotes from his obituary:

Jacob Grabe lived with a mild case of autism, Asperger’s syndrome — “very quiet, very smart,” Hoey said. He’d started writing lessons offered through his church — Whitewater’s nondenominational A House for His Name, 6350 Kannah Creek Rd.

“It opened him up,” [Heather Hoey, a cousin of Jacob Grabe’s mother, Jaquette] said of the lessons. “He and his mom did everything together.”

Grabe was an eighth-grader at Grand Mesa Middle School and played the French Horn in band, according to the obituary.

“(Grabe) was just elected equipment manager. Jacob was the top seller the past two years for the school fundraisers.”

“He was also in track learning to master the triple jump. Jacob loved God’s creations and enjoyed taking nature walks with his mom.”

The obituary continues, “Jacob was a helper and he loved going with his mom to deliver her Avon orders. He also enjoyed going and helping his dad with his window washing business.”

A service for Jacob is scheduled for Saturday.

  7. More details about this case from today’s Grand Junction Press:

Allen Grabe shot his son in the face as the boy slept in his bed late last Thursday, according to allegations in an arrest warrant affidavit.

“I had to kill him because you were ruining him,” Allen Grabe allegedly told his wife, Jaquette, according to an arrest affidavit.

Allen Grabe, 51, was formally charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, in the shooting death of 13-year-old Jacob Grabe at the family’s Pear Park home.

Jaquette Grabe had noted “’some financial pressures’” recently.
