Colorful Homes To Brighten Your Weekend

paint_calculator.jpgGranted, it’s summer, the sun is shining; most of you probably don’t need your days any brighter than they already are. I however, live in the Northwest.

Which I love, but it can be a little gray. There’s nothing better on a rainy gray day in a gray city than seeing a splash of paint.

And really, how many beige houses do we need in the world anyway?

The home painters in Valparaiso are very color savvy.

Just one idea about how to use paint. What do you think? Is the burnt orange a little weird? I kind of like it. (TIP: Click on this house to see many more cool colored homes).

Well, it gets an A+ for originality at least…

This home below is really like a little dash of sunshine!

Now for my favorite (as per usual I have one): Plus, I’m thinking of moving to wherever this is and thought you all should know.

I’m not sure if this Tom Nolle fellow is a photographer, or maybe just recording his travels but I love this picture. Not totally offbeat, but today we’re talking about color and this one to me stands out. The non average, yet earthy colors make these houses shine against the green and blue gray background. I love how it looks like it just rained. This fellow is good in my unprofessional photographer opinion.

If you’ve got a colorful home (or other offbeat home) why not send me a picture? I know some of you readers live in cool places and spaces… Although, obviously, sending me something would be much easier if there was an email address located on this blog.

Guess What! Soon there will be… Until then, you can email me information about your offbeat home at: jennifer.chait (at) b5media.com

Have a great weekend — and stay tuned for BIG news on Monday!!

I love that people take these real estate market so-called “risks”!

I painted our kitchen cabinets deep blue and people tsked-tsked me, saying, “This will affect the resale value, you know… You should have chosen a NEUTRAL color.” blah blah blah

Three years later, I still smile when I see those cabinets, which I painted late at night and during the wee hours of the morning while my child slept (he had colic for months – sleep didn’t happen too frequently.)

I have nothing against gray, white, eggshell, brown, tan, et cetera. They’re lovely in their own rights. But I don’t like the idea of living in a bland home just because someone else might not like my choice of a deep burgundy wall or a dark chocolate bathroom.

    Viva la difference!

    :)

Hope you’re having a terrific weekend! Go paint something!

  2. Thanks Angelique, I’d love to go paint something, sadly it’s all about the work this weekend. Busy, busy day on Monday and actually all week. How about you paint something and send it in?

Thanks as always for stopping by — you should, in fact, receive a comment reward because you always brighten my day — even without paint.

    Hello,

came across this site after searching for valparaiso tags. on my blog i’ve got loads of photos of houses and streets in valpo, especially this post:http://corrugatedcity.blogspot.com/2007/05/more-photos-of-valparaiso.html but also if you click on the label ‘images of chile’.

valpo has some crazy architecture, including my own home which is shaped like a ship. the houses that start at street level and then drop 3 or 4 floors are also pretty cool…

  4. Thanks Matt — I will absolutely check out your site soon; is your ship house on your site too? Because that would be very cool to see.

Thanks for the heads up, and for stopping by :)

    hi,

yes, on the link put in the post above there are 2 photos of ship-shaped houses. mine’s the one taken from a distance…and that has a pirate flag flying from it! We’re going to be painting it a light maroon-red in the next few months to make it stand out a bit more…
