The companies that are most posed to do well over the long term (and not do layoffs) are those who are private.  Sadly public companies must manage to the quarter and year numbers, and alot less to their own 3 or 5 year plan.  I worked for one public business who would layoff people just before the quarter end if numbers didn&#039;t look right - sad.
