Getting people to go for sexually transmitted infection testing is difficult enough. Getting young adults who feel that they’re invincible to go is even harder. But, a
unique method in Houston, TX, may be doing the trick for some: Hip Hop HIV testing.
This unique program targets young adults, particularly African Americans, because their HIV and STI rate is climbing. According to this article, Hip-hop concert serves as lure for HIV screenings :
Everyone who receives the tests, one hour of education and their results will get tickets from KBXX-FM (97.9, The Box) to a July 11 concert at the George R. Brown Convention Center featuring former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett, Port Arthur’s Bun B and a lengthy roster of performers.
The testing includes a check for syphilis, a growing problem within sexually active young adults.
What do you think? Is this a good idea?
