A lot of these comments say that parents need to accept that teens will have sex if they want to. I think most of us parents are aware that we can't watch our kids 24/7. But does that mean that we should just encourage our teens to have sex? NO! Why is it the school's job to provide you with condoms so you can have sex? If you are old enough to make the decision to have sex then shouldn't you be old enough to buy your own condoms? Shouldn't you be old enough to know the importance of keeping yourself protected? After all you are the one who will have a disease or will have to take care of a child for the rest of your life. Not your parent. Not the school. Teens need to start being responsible for themselves and not assume the school or their parents will provide them with condoms.

I am speaking as a teenger who just had her prom experience a few weeks ago.

My parents did let me stay out all night one prom. Prom ended at 11pm. Our school hosted an after party that lasted until 2. They then hosten an after-after party that went on until 6am. However, me and some friends continued on to a hotel party after that. Me and my boyfriend did make the decision to have sex that night. We almost did not use protection, but lucky there was a convience stroe located next to the hotel. I think condoms in prom goodie bags are a fantastic idea.

Teenagers, expecially on prom night, are going to have sex if they want to and have put their minds to it. No amoutn of chaparoned parties or late night activites and keep them from doing so if they're determined.

If not in a goodie bag, they should eb readily available after prom and I think it is fantastic that this school has decided to do this.

After-prom party? You are kidding, right? The school putting condoms in goody bags should be a model for all schools. Other comments nailed it. After-prom parties are a waste of money and if the condom is in the bags given to every student, then they are protected, should they choose to use it. I'll bet they have a more proactive sex-ed course, too. It isn't something to be shoved in a closet and discussed upon marriage only. Teens have been screwing around since there have been teens. There is no stopping it, so inform them, protect them and pray they use their knowledge to make decent decisions.

Open your mind. It's amazing what happens when you let the truth in.

In this day and age teens are having sex weather the parents like it or not we teens are well at least some of us but then we don't make the smartest decisions in the world I mean was curios about sex so I tried it I'm not going to lie it changed my life and yes it hurt but when you look at it lik me and my friends look at it its going to happen sooner or later so I decided to do it. No I don't regret it. I think that going to the prom is a good idea to have a condom with you becasue you never know what is going to happen so when my boyfriend takes me to the prom I was told to bring some and at my friends school that pass them out with other goodies so I won't complain. I think its not right to judge people because they aren't virgins I think there just the same.

I am a senior this year in high school, and I live in Indiana. As you can imagine, my school is far from handing out condoms at prom, we barely even talk about sex in health class, but I think this is a great approach to the high rate of teenagers having sex on prom night. My school does offer after prom, and the majority of the students go to it because it is a well planned out event, with free food, games, and great prizes, but still teenagers end the night out at parties, leaving the chance for sex. I think that more high schools should start doing this, to me being given a condom is not degrading, it just shows that they are treating us like adults, and acknowledging the fact that most students have sex. If I didnt want the condom, I would just make balloons with it, great entertainment for the car ride home.

The only problem with after prom parties, is NO ONE GOES. If you put a few condoms in every kids bag, then everyone gets the condom. Everyone is covered. There's really no downside.

The school knows it's going to happen, the kids are going to have sex. There's no way around that, so they're doing the responsible thing here and simply covering the kids bases for them.

Also, people who sit there and try to come up with all these alternative things that kids could be doing, there's still simply one fact that says school needs to educate on sex, THEY'RE GOING TO DO IT IF THEY WANT TO.

Stumbled this, and I gotta say, roll on Arizona. I'm from Ireland, and I know this would never happen here. Or at least if it did the Catholic church, so entrenched in a position of power that it is, would campaign against it.

Anyways, the thing about here, most grads, or debs (what we call proms) roll around when the attendees, or a large percentage of them, are old enough to drink. Even if they aren't, it's likely that they will be imbibing anyway. So condoms being handed out is an even better idea, knowing that.

And Day-after Prom boy, why get offended? Sure there's a minority of people like yourself, been through that crazy abstinence system (or not?) I read about, but the majority of the kids will at least think about having sex after a night out like that. It's like the people who protested against having seatbelts made mandatory in cars when they were phased in. Grow up, be mature and don't get offended at people trying to help the majority.

I guess it's better than getting pregnant or having an abortion. I don't particularly like the idea of schools passing out condoms, but since so many parents are afraid and ashamed to have an honest talk with their kids about sex and relationships, it doesn't look like we have much of choice, do we?

If kids really want to go to a party, get drunk, and have sex after prom, a raffled TV and non-alcoholic punch is not going to change their minds.

This measure is a realistic approach to solving a problem (keep in mind the problem isn't the kids having sex so much as the kids having sex and getting pregnant), and I'm sure there are many young mothers who would agree with me.
