MIT’s Technology Review has an excellent article discussing a new concept for artificial hearts – continuous flow pumps. Advantages of continuous flow also known as rotor-style or axial pumps:

  • Smaller size
  • More durable
  • Better response to changes in the body’s need for varying blood flows
