Consumer Reports on Light Ice Creams

As a big fan of good light ice cream, I was excited to learn that the July issue of Consumer Reports contains a light ice cream challenge.

A team of trained taste testers compared the light versions of several brands to the regular versions. Overall, Consumer Reports found that the better-for-you versions are “quite tasty.” They even thought that the low-fat Häagen-Dazs Coffee was somewhat better than the regular version! Other brands tested include Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food, Edy’s/Dreyer’s Grand Mint Chocolate Chip and Breyers All Natural Butter Pecan.
Consumer Reports also reminds you that “light” is relative: the light Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s they sampled had more calories and sugars than the regular Edy’s and Breyers.
You can read the overview of the ice cream challenge online, and Consumer Reports subscribers may sample the full test results.
