Cookie Decorating Ideas

I was never much into cookies as gifts, per se, until I started working at a place that gave cookie bouquets to people. The cookies were decorated in different types of items from our business, and one large central cookie even had our logo placed carefully upon the top in frosting. It reminded me that cookies are an art form.

If you’re looking for a few ideas on how to decorate your latest batch of treats, the following should help you out.
Think Seasonal
It’s easy to think about reindeer or evergreen tree cookies near Christmastime, but you can also use the seasons to guide you the rest of the year as well. Take these leaf cookies shown on the Wilton site. They would make a wonderful treat all alone, but you could also add them to the top of a cake as well. How about a Thanksgiving pumpkin cake or bread topped with these gems?

Kid’s Initials
There’s a great idea on the Nestle site on how to use cookies as part of a gift bag. Bake an initial for each child’s name, put frosting on the edges, and tops the frosting with small candy pieces. Then attach to the outside of a gift bag so they know which bag is theirs.
Place Cards
Who says you need to write a traditional place card when having someone over for dinner. Surprise them with a cookie that has their name on it. Just use a simple gel frosting and write or print their name on the top.
Cookie as Greeting Card
Cookies can convey a message as much as they can provide a treat. One idea is to decorate the outside of a cookie to look like a greeting card. Find a simple design at your local card store to help you out if you need to. Put your personalized greeting on the top of the “card.”

We ususally melt colored chocolates in a candymelter palette and then pain our cookies with brushes and squeeze pens.
