Could a Vow of Silence Help Your Health?

In this fast paced world, wouldn’t a little peace and quiet (literally) make you feel a bit less stressed? Some people, like Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, have chosen to take a vow of silence as a health practice. Shetty is known for seeking out the latest methods in wellness, and she’s not alone. A break from speech and sound can give the mind a mental break. It can give the appearance of a “slower” lifestyle, which in and of itself can make people feel better about life.

Many people go to retreats or spas to practice a vow of silence, but sources like The Star Online say all you need is some dedicated time and you could practice this method at home as well.

They recommend the following to help women take a vow of silence at home:

•Choose a day when you will not need to communicate with others very much.
•Decide that you will not speak for a number of hours or even the whole day.
•You may need to carry a small notebook with you to write down anything you cannot avoid communicating with others, but ideally try to be alone.

As they mention, sometimes just one day of doing this can greatly improve your health.
