Could We Be Programmed To Like Chocolate?

A study by Swiss and British scientists of a small group of volunteers showed that about half had a “chemical signature” showing their love for chocolate. (Science Daily) 11 classified themselves as chocolate lovers and the other 11 were indifferent. Blood and urine tests over the next 5 days while the volunteers ate chocolate or a placebo showed a specific metabolic type among the chocolate lovers – complete with low levels of LDL (”bad” cholesterol) and higher levels of albumin, a beneficial protein. This was present whether they were eating the chocolate or not.
It’s definitely interesting to think that there may be those of us who were simply born loving chocolate. I’m in the indifferent category – I love a good chocolate mousse, but give me some New York cheesecake or a peanut butter cookie any day (made with Splenda, of course) and I’ll enjoy it much more.
Are you a chocolate lover? Or are you indifferent like me? Let me know in the comments!
