Crap Your Pants or Be Fat?

alli.jpgAlli is the best-selling “weight-loss miracle pill” right now.

Of course, the side effect is that you crap your pants.

Come on Ladies. Is being a few pounds thinner worth crapping your pants?

If it’s worth that, then why is it not worth walking a mile or two?

Another study reports that women would rather take 10 years off their lives rather than gaining 50 pounds.

Well, if you gain 50 pounds you kind of DO take 10 years off your life, don’t you? And if you are willing to sacrifice 10 years of time, then why not give up 1 hour a day to yourself by exercising?

I’m just saying – hello, there is no magic pill. If there were, I believe Oprah would have found it and told us all about it. If there is one thing in life you can count on, it’s probably that.

Stop crapping your pants, stop taking pills and decide you’re worth the effort of a healthy diet and exercise.

You’ll not only be thinner, you’ll be happier and less depressed. That’s a fact you can count on.

Oh my gosh, that is the most disgusting thing i’ve read in a long time! Ugh!

  2. I am always amazed by the amount of stuff people will spend on the magic formula for getting thin! You are so right though—if there were a pill that worked, Oprah would definitely have discovered it by now!

Once again, thank you for telling it like it is Tracee!

For the record, I’ve been taking Alli for about 3 months now and never had …um….potty issues.

The key is to follow a low fat diet. Eat as your supposed to eat and you won’t experience the side effects.

Alli blocks out part of the fat in the recommended low fat diet. If you continue to eat high fat foods you’ll experience the side effects.

I never crapped my pants, I don’t have those unfortunate gas issues some experience. I don’t have any side effects at all – but I have been losing a couple of extra pounds a month while taking it – and following a diet and exercise program.

    Just showing you another side!

    Deb

    Just

I hope it works for you Deb.

But, I have serious doubts that people will be able to keep the weight off.

My husband did the Atkins bit and he gained every single pound back and more- it messed with his metabolism.

What if it permanently ruins your metabolism? It’s pretty risky.

I think what is most promising about Alli, as opposed to other diet pills, is that a lifestyle change, and a conscious focus on what one is eating, is necessary if one wishes to take the pill (otherwise the crap your pants thing will become a reality!). Hopefully, once the weight is lost, the good habits (Atkins does not encourage good habits) developed while on the pill will continue. A similar product that one could argue works on the principle of classical conditioning, would be the medication that makes alcoholics very nauseous if they drink alcohol. The alcoholic is then more likely to avoid alcohol. Perhaps the same relationship is created with Alli – crapping your pants in public or having terrible cramps would certainly make me avoid fatty foods. Thank goodness I don’t have to test my hypothesis! I lost 40 pounds 3 years ago and have kept it off.

  7. Wow. I can only imagine what kind of torture that would be. What good is a diet pill if you can’t sit comfortably at work.

  8. Tracee says:

Now I’m not against all medical intervention. Perhaps for the truly obese something like this would be prudent AFTER they have adopted lifestyle changes for a faster result.

I took Chantix to quit smoking and thank God for that.

But, didn’t Dr. Oz say this pill was an unhealthy thing to do? That perhaps your body is not only missing fat – but nutriants?

I think this is just this decade’s Phen Phin – remember that? Where millions of women took what amounts to speed in the ’90s and many of them ruined their hearts. They were thin for a few months, but it was so dangerous that they have lifelong chronic and deadly heart conditions.

The thing is even thin and healthy women took it.

When Zero is the ideal I see a lot of normal sized healthy women popping pills to acheive it.

It’s upsetting to me. I fear for them. I think it’s indicative of a collective low self esteem in women.

  9. Violet says:

In studies for Alli, most people lost 5-10 pounds in six months — achievable only if you follow a reduced calorie diet in addition to taking the drug.

Considering the cost and the side effects, it just doesn’t seem like much of a benefit. If it works for someone else, great, but I won’t be using it.

  10. Alliston says:

It’s sad to hear that people still think that “diet pills” work. Anyone who’s done research can tell you that fat really isn’t the issue, unless is it truly in excess. Calories and over-eating of carbs are the trouble-makers!
Taking a pill to help you drop some weight isn’t worth the health risks, eating smaller meals more frequently is the solution!
