N&J I like making a home move inventory – although, I really only jot down the stuff I care a whole lot about. It’s a nice tip though, especially if you have items worth a decent amount.

Lisa – that could work. I don’t trust my server that much – I’ve seen people lose everything off their websites. However it’s a good idea if you have your list elsewhere as well.

Another place to save the digital file could be on your website. It doesn’t have to be public and you can .htaccess the folder.

I keep an excel file with serial numbers and digital pictures of each item and a picture of it’s serial number plate. I use this for insurance purposes but I’ve also used it before my household goods were packed up and shipped across the country so I could account for everything on the other side.
