Create a stress relieving garden

The only thing better than a basic garden is a stress relieving garden. Technically, all gardens can relieve stress, but to pump up the tension release factor, you can also try the following.

relax-in-a-hammockHang out: In a hammock that is. A nice shady spot and a sweet hammock is a great way to relax. If you don’t have the means to hang a hammock, try a freestanding swing or hammock; available at most home and garden shops.

Feed some birdies: I’ve had birds all spring in my flowers. Some built a nest and watching the babies go from eggs to flying tots was way relaxing. You can watch the birds and time sort of slips away. If you add a simple bird feeder and maybe a birdbath to your garden you’ll attract all sorts of feathered friends. If birds aren’t your bag, learn to attract butterflies – they’re relaxing too.

Get a fountain: Listening to water trickling and whirling around can be very peaceful. Water can also naturally reduce outside noise like neighbors and traffic.

Consider herbs: Lavender in particular is an especially soothing scent. A nice bunch of lavender will spread calming scents throughout a garden space. You can also try a more earthy scent like rosemary or sage.

Chill accents seal the deal: Pink flamingos are anything but calm. Get garden decor that’s actually calming to look at like brass, silver, soothing solar lights, chimes, and so on.

How do you make your garden a more relaxing place?

A bench right in the middle of my garden is my quiet place. My mom has a swing right out by her pond that’s very relaxing. You actually read my mind (you’re very good a that). I have something similar, but a little different, ready to post on MEG while I’m on vacation in a couple weeks (which should also be very relaxing):-)

  2. It’s my mind-reading friend! Hahaha. I like swings (shaded ones) better than benches, because it’s nice to sway and stay cool in the garden. BUT I have been seeing some awesome sustainable garden benches around lately. I should post that – or did you today? :)
