This week we’re concentrating on Getting An Organized & Clutter-Free Home for the New Year. So far we looked at some general tips and closets. Now we’re going to move to a high-traffic area – the bathroom.

Is this how your bathroom is making you feel? Drowning in the clutter? Not after this week. Let’s start with some basics…
1) Let stuff go: You’ve seen this rule before, but it is really the first law for decluttering almost any space. In the bathroom, letting go is even more important, because in most cases, the bathroom is a small space. You need to free up what you’ve got.
- Every four months (or right now if it’s been a while) scan and declutter your medicine cabinet.
- Consolidate in the bathroom – consolidation of items you use is key to an organized bathroom. Do you need four face creams? I’m betting not.
- If it’s not for use in the bathroom, don’t keep it there. In fact, if you’ve got a super small bathroom, you may want to consider keeping even normal bathroom stuff out of the bathroom.
2) Keep it fresh: Create habits that allow you to quickly clean and organize your bathroom on a daily or weekly basis. Part of keeping spaces decluttered is finding a basic cleaning plan you can live with. Make a bathroom cleaning caddy will help.
3) Don’t underestimate pretty: Bathrooms don’t tend to be the most decor showered room of the house. But never underestimate beauty as a decluttering motivator. Hanging a lovely framed image, choosing a great looking shower curtain, placing flowers or candles in the bath; these are all things that make you more invested in a space. When you’re invested and actually like what you see, you’re going to keep that space looking better naturally. Later, we’ll look at some specific bathroom decor ideas.
Coming up some more ideas about decluttering and organizing the bathroom. Even if you’re starting from square one, the bathroom can be a fairly easy room to tackle.
