Create Your Own Summer Reading Program

OneBookTwoBook.com    Perhaps your library is a small one and they don’t have the facilities for a summer reading program as I described in a previous post. Or you live too far from the library for it to be convenient to attend.

Why not develop a summer reading program of your own with your children?

*Tie in with the local library. With their help, do some of their activities at home or ones that pick up their theme.

*Choose a favorite book and base family activities around it.

*Choose a topic and read books that tie in with it.

*Each child reads books of their choosing and then participates in activities they and the parents develop.

*Plan field trips that connect with the books you’re reading.

*Organize a hike, take a picnic lunch, and read books outside. Study nature around you and learn about your environment.

What reading activities to you and your children engage in during the summer?  Share with us.
