Creating a Children’s Art Wall

For a number of years, when the grandchildren were younger, we had an art wall along the stairs.

It wasn’t finished at that time (the house was in that continued process of being built), so at first my daughter and son-in-law placed Kara’s and Alex’s art from school to cover the sheetrock.  Then it became a treasure gallery.

They even hung some of the art above the stairwell.  At this “gallery,” the children could see their art work, from kindergarten and older.  They felt that what they did at school and brought home was important.  We also posted some of the art projects done at home.

Then they began posting art in their bedrooms.  As our granddaughter grew older, she designed and made quilts…sometimes for school projects and other times just for fun.  Those were hung around her room instead of the posters she once used for decoration.  Just before leaving for college she made a fabric collage for her dorm room.

Do you have a children’s art wall, a place where the whole family can enjoy their creative efforts?

I live with my son and his family and we have an art kitchen. My 2-year-old grandson and 5-year-old granddaughter love to draw, paint, and create. We have all of their masterpieces hanging from ceiling to floor. The refrigerator is covered too. Both children can’t wait for their pieces to dry so they can go up in our gallery. They are so proud of themselves.
