Cymbalta Helps Treat Both The Physical And Mental Symptoms Of Diabetic Neuropathy

Being a nurse, patients share their symptoms and concerns about diabetes on a daily basis. One of the most consistent complaints is numbness in the hands and feet, known as diabetic neuropathy.

Diabetic neuropathy, nerve damage, occurs in people who have had diabetes because their blood sugar level is higher than normal. Over time, high blood sugar levels damage the blood vessels and nerves.

It can be painful and everyday activities become major inconveniences. Just imagine having to ask for help to walk to the bathroom or open a piece of mail . How frustrating. I don’t even like asking for help changing a car tire. Like my youngest says, “I can do it all myself”.

Imagine how your foot or hand feels when you wake up in the middle of the night with pins and needles from laying on it wrong. Diabetic neuropathy mimics this feeling, just like your foot “fell asleep”, but it doesn’t go away. Are there ways to reverse neuropathy? No, nothing can undo or reverse the nerve damage caused by diabetes. But hope is on the horizon.

Cymbalta is the first prescription medicine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration specifically for the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, or diabetic nerve pain. Cymbalta doesn’t undo or stop nerve damage, and it can’t make diabetes go away. But Cymbalta was proven safe and effective in clinical trials to help manage diabetic nerve pain.

CymbaltaThis is great news for patients that suffer with diabetic neuropathy. Cymbalta has been prescribed to millions of patients with diabetes and depression. It helps treat both the mental and physical symptoms.

  2. My sister takes it for other indications but her copay is $20 for the month. Out of pocket you are probably looking at about $150 a month, so insurance would be a huge help in this case. I hope it helps your pain, let me know how and if it works out for you!
