Daily Detox: Pass the Paints

I’m planning a tag sale in a few weeks and know for sure that I have one too many home improvement project leftovers lurking in my garage. So today’s Daily Detox: give unused paint new life.
Improperly stored paints and sealers can be a source of indoor air pollution. Plus, passing them on is a very green thing to do – prevents waste and pollution. Here’s a few paint recycling links to get you started:
- Earth 911 Paint Recycling
- Recycle Now (UK)
- City of Newton, MA
- Paint Collection Wellesley, MA
- Partners for Waste Paint Solutions, Illinois
- San Francisco Paint Collection & Drop-off
- Metro Oregon Paint Recycling Program
- Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance Recycled Latex Paint
Another way to pass it on is to donate unused paint to local organizations. Some paint take back programs do this for you while others may sell recycled paint. The best way to find out about organizations in your area that are looking for paint is to contact the local town hall, transfer station or waste management board.
If you are one such organization, post your paint request in the comments! Or, if you have an insider tip for paint recycling in your area put it in print below to help pass the paints!
