Daisy the Dog Finds A Mammoth Meal

While strolling down a beach in the UK this week, Daisy the dachshund spotted a bone and tried to dig it up, only to find it was as big as herself. She waited for her owner to come help her out, who then realized it was likely a fossilized mammoth bone, now thought to be at least 2 million years old.

The fossil would have been washed up from the seabed before becoming embedded in the sand and may have lain there for centuries before recent heavy seas uncovered it.

It was identified as coming from a Southern Elephant, or archidiskodon meridionalis, by Bob Markham, chairman of a local geology group.
