The Dalai Lama, the 73-year-old Tibeten spiritual leader is in hospital recovering from gallbladder surgery. He had been ill not long ago but reports don’t say if the illness was related to the surgery. The reports do say that his August hospital visit was because the Dalai Lama was complaining of abdominal discomfort.
The Dalai Lama is a popular figure – my oldest son has twice traveled to Ottawa, Canada (a two-hour drive from us) to see him speak. The first time, my son was in Grade 11 and it was part of his Asian Studies class. One thing that he said was that no matter how large the venue was, when the Dalai Lama walked out, a sense of peace overcame the crowd. He said that the man just radiated kindness and peace.
We need more people like that in this world, so along with the people of Tibet and all those who admire the Dalai Lama, I will send good healing vibes and hope that his recovery is smooth and uneventful.
If you would like to learn more about gallstones, I wrote about them when my daughter experienced them at the beginning of the summer: Gallstones.
