Declutter Your Fridge for Thanksgiving

Decluttering your fridge for Thanksgiving can take a long time (all month) to less time, depending on how many people you’re feeding this year, and the types of foods you’ll be serving.

Here are some real tips (ones that don’t involve child labor)…
- Start clearing the fridge early. Start cleaning out things like pickle jars with one pickle, almost totally empty mayo jars, never opened jars and bottles, and old veggies. Closer to Thanksgiving, if you’re still having issues, clear out non-essentials, such as items no one has ever used, and most likely never will.
- If you shop closer to the actual day, you can temporarily store some items in a cooler (fill it with ice packs).
- As you prep Thanksgiving food, the week of, or night before, store food items in square containers that stack nicely to save space. Those obnoxious deviled egg and veggie holders may look nice, but they take up killer space.
- To store non-square pies, you can one, store them in the cool garage (only for a day), or cut pieces of heavy cardboard, and place them between each pie.
- If you’re really out of room, items like potatoes, apples, cranberries, yams, and other hearty items in a cool place. They’ll be ok out of the fridge for a bit.
- For icy cold drinks that don’t take up fridge space place bottles and cans in the garage, on your patio, or in a cooler filled with ice packs.

I put non-essentials in coolers with ice, checking them a couple times a day to make sure ice is still there. This time of year, the ice lasts a long time. Store the coolers on a deck, in the garage or laundry room. The washing machine is said to be a good “cooler” in a pinch.
Awesome tip! Thanksgiving does require a lot more fridge space, doesn’t it. Getting started early will definitely help chip away at it easier. Pickle jars with just one pickle…now that is something to get rid of!!
