Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) Anti-Aging Supplement Does NOT Work
When I hear products being brandished as anti-aging, I can’t help but shake my head. As if it’s possible to stop time and remain young forever. As if there’s a magic elixir that will keep you living forever and ever. “The age-defying benefits help you to look and feel your best”. Yeah, right.
Well, wrong. A two-year clinical study demonstrated that a dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a compound popularly sold as an antiaging supplement over the past several years, just doesn’t work.
“For almost two years we restored DHEA in older men and women to the high normal levels that are usually observed in young people, but found no beneficial effects on age-related changes in body composition and function,” Dr. Nair says. “No beneficial effects on quality of life were observed. There’s no evidence based on this study that DHEA has an antiaging effect.”
If you’d like to take a closer look at the data, the results have been published in the latest issue of The New England Journal of Medicine. In the accompanying editorial, Aging and Fountain-of-Youth Hormones, it was suggested that DHEA be treated as a regulated drug and not as a dietary supplement.
Somehow, all these should not come as a surprise. The NIH has already released warnings almost a decade ago. Still, DHEA hormone supplements are being sold and obviously there are still lots falling for it.
What is it anyway that makes people seek eternal youth? Vanity?

It does work. It has helped my general mood as a person. I am more positive and don’t let things get me down. I used to suffer from anxiety and now I don’t. I take no perscriptions and refuse to. DHEA is produced naturally and is the precursor to most of our hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.
What happens is DHEA is converted to other chemicals which can have anti aging properties , it is scientifically documented. DHEA itself is not a anabolic agent or anti aging regulator.

dhea is a fantastic supplement. i’m 53 yrs. old and have been taking it for ~7yrs. this stuff is great. when i started taking it i felt more energetic and noticed i could stay up later, get up earlier, and feel more rested than before. i think it made my skin look younger. the drug companies only want to ban it so they can control the market and jack up the price. don’t fall for the drug companies lies and scare tactics. write your congressmen and urge them to keep dhea an over the counter supplement.

i’m 33 now. i have been taking dhea for a few months and it is helping me. before it seemed like everyone could push me around emotionally and i would always cave in. but now, when people try to push me around, i feel a sense of protection coming from somewhere and it doesn’t effect me as much. i can actually talk back and not feel guilty about it. my skins looks tighter and younger and some excess fat in the hard to get areas are slowly going away. also a sense of well being, also maybe my libido is getting a little too high. it feels like how it was in junior highschool.

Well, im 40, taking two 50mg capsules a day (100mg total) for 3 months and the benefits are noticeable. I feel better, stronger, with better mood, mentally quicker than ever. I go to bed as late as 1.30 am each day (before some internet fun or research) and ready to wake up at 6.30 am withou any tiredness. I have reduced my fat index from 24% to just 21%, muscles are more defined my skin looks younger and some face expression lines have disappeared. My sexual performance has really improved and my libido is on the leves it used to be as when i was 28. Finally some people say me i look as if i were 30.
