Depression Era Cooking with Clara

March 9, 2009 by Heather R.

Clara, a 91-year-old great-grandmother, talks about growing up during the Great Depression and the meals she and her family prepared then in the video above.

She also fixes a “poorman’s meal” of potatoes, hot dogs and onions, which I remember my grandpa also making!

What cheap and delicious meals do you like to make?

I love Clara’s recipe for her poor man’s meal. Anymore depression cooking recipes would be great. With our economy failing many families are loosing income but still have plenty of mouths to feed at home.

    Clara, give us more!!!

    Thanks,
    Cherie

I love Clara and her recipes from the depression. I cook often but recently got laid off and money is tight. It is wonderful site and she looks amazing. Thanks for sharing her and her recipes with us. She makes me smile just watching her cook. She can teach us all a lesson or two!
