Designed To Sell You Three Pertinent Ideas

That’s what the original manuscript (that became our Big Book) from 1938 said right before the abc’s in the chapter “How It Works!”

Once again, Barefoot’s World has the Original Manuscript for you to read. It really was mostly as it is today but some of it is very interesting, giving us some insight into folks like Bill W. Where was Bill going to “sell” us?

“Our description of the alcoholic, the chapter to the agnostic, and our personal adventures before and after, have been designed to sell you three pertinent ideas:

(a) That you are alcoholic and cannot manage your own life.
(b) That probably no human power can relieve your alcoholism.
(c) That God can and will.”

If that wasn’t enough, he followed it up with;

“If you are not convinced on these vital issues, you ought to re-read the book to this point or else throw it away!”
