A new and unique device, that can help detect disorder in
the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and prevent its breakdown, has been
developed by a team of Indian researchers. This new device, ANSiscope, will particularly be
useful in treating diabetic patients. ANS controls vital organs of the body
like heart and is part of the Central Nervous System. The nervous defect, known as Diabetic
Autonomic Neuropathy (DAN) increases the risk of death. All ANS related ailments are now detected
using inaccurate clinical tests. This is where ANSiscope will help, by
accurately detecting the extent of damage very early. ANSiscope can be used in other medical
fields like cardiology too. Early
detection of the damage in ANS could save a large number of the 171 million people affected
by diabetes (according to a report from the World Health Organisation, WHO) from life threatening complication. This research has been financed by a US based company, Dyansys.
