Diapers to diesel

Babylune has a really cool article about the potential to turn disposable diapers into fuel.

“According to a Toronto Star article published today, there may be a solution. AMEC, a global engineering company, is working on building a facility that will convert used diapers into industrial diesel that will cost about 50 cents per liter.”

This would be incredible as there are an estimated 7,000 diapers per child being thrown into land fills. The proposed solution is a closed system that doesn’t even produce emissions. I would love to see something like this become an easily accessible reality, as the environmental impact of disposables is the single largest factor in my wife and my investigation into cloth diapers.

Thanks for the link love. I can’t believe that this hasn’t become a bigger story. You’d think that everyone would be interested in something so green that could solve a big problem.

don’t forget to weigh up the water usage and extra detergents.

in australia now it would be unthinkable to use cloth nappies I think – they just use too much water to wash. we used them for our 1st – saved a bunch of money doing it that way.
