Did You Bite Your Nails?

I don’t know where these habits originate from, but I certainly bit mine and I’m pretty sure that at least one of my sisters bit hers as well. Our Dad did everything he could think of us to cure us of this habit… even to the point of paying us. If we went a week without biting and you could see some growth at the end of each nail, he would give us a quarter. And in those days, a quarter went a lot further than it does today.

Strangely enough, neither one of my kids became nail biters, so perhaps it’s not genetic, but something to do with the personality?? I know that even today, if something is worrying me, I start to nibble. Thankfully, most of the time, my nails aren’t all that bad!

*And yes, even Sister Bear knows about nail biting! The Berenstain Bears and the Bad Habit (First Time Books(R))

I quit biting my nails when I became interested in boys. Suddenly, nail polish was more important. But to this day, I bite or pick at my cuticles. I’ve never been able to break that habit, and I really wish I could.

I agree. I am over 25 yrs old and still can’t avoid biting my nails when I have nothing to do or just want to relax.
