Did You Know That Pregnant Star Halle Berry Was A Diabetic?

halle-berry.jpgDid you know that Halle Berry was a type 2 diabetic since she was 23 years old? I didn’t. I was reading the good ol’ People magazine tonight and saw the news that she was pregnant. And that man of hers… handsome indeed!

But getting back to the diabetes thing, she was diagnosed almost 20 years ago and has done very well with diet and exercise control. As we all know diabetes puts a crinkle in anything and pregnancy is no different. So I wish her luck in keeping her diabetes under control as her hormones soar into high gear. And we also know that a healthy, happy pregnancy is very possible with diabetes as long as we keep on top of sugar changes and fluctuations as the pregnancy progresses.

Did anyone have any major issues while they were pregnant? Was everything smooth sailing or did you have to change a large amount of your treatment? Believe it or not, I had absolutely no diabetic issues while pregnant with my 3 girls. I was diagnosed after the birth of my youngest. Go figure…

  1. Hmm, is she a Type 1 or Type 2? The information is quite conflicting. Please help settle the bet…

    Thanks!

  2. Wait a minute now – Halle Berry is a type 1!

  3. Kendra says:

The People magazine said Type 1, but it isn’t the best news source in the entire world…
“And not just because of a ticking biological clock or the fact that the the fact that the Type 2 diabetes she was diagnosed with at 23…..” pg. 68 of 9/17/07 issue in the US.

I don’t know, I have searches this AM and have found several places that say she was adult onset type 2 diabetes at 23. There was 1 article that read ,”type 1 diabetic that might have to shoot up”,but that was also an entertainment area and they said “shoot up”. I mean, come the heck on!

Best guess, who knows. I am going to say google it and see what you find. Like I said most of the articles read “type 2 diabetic that no longer uses any injectable insulin”. I don’t know her personally, although I did meet her in NY once for a charity event and she is gorgeous, so I can not give her total regimen. Point being, pregnancy is a wonderful thing whether you are diabetic or not! So congrats.

Thanks Chrissie and Amy T. for your thoughts and comments!!! Have a great day! :)

Oh, I forgot to add in the above thoughts, when I return home from work this afternoon I will research it some more and give my sister in law a shout in LA. She works with all the stars and the fund raisers that go on throughout America for EIF. She will probably know some specifics or be able to point me in a better direction. :) Kendra

  5. Lala says:

She is most certainly a type 2 diabetic and i pray that she has a healthy pregnancy. Im not sure how the changes in hormones will affect the sugar levels though?

  6. Well folks, almost everywhere I read, it says type 2 diabetic. I know she supports the Joslin Center and juvenile diabetes but she appears to have been adult onset type 2. If anyone knows for definite anything different let us know. Thanks for all your comments. Hope your week is good!

    K:)

  7. Randi says:

I am a type 1 diabetic. I have two beautiful children and it was a rocky pregnacy. I have had diabetes for 20 years now and with type one you have to always take insulin and be monitored more closely when you are preganant. As with any diabetic whom becomes pregnant there are the risks of a complicted pregnancy, however, if you have greatnot good management but great management you can have a smooth and pretty successful pregnancy. I think Halle will do fine. If I can do it Then I prety sure anyone can. I was told very early on to forget about having kids and that it was not going to happen and well I have a 5 and 7 year old. Congrats to Halle

  8. And congrats to you Randi. You are proof positive that great care and treatment will bring great outcomes- 2 beautiful children!

    K :)
