Diet Soda And Diabetics… Take Two!

Remember what I wrote about diet soda last week. Well, I have found that at least 2 of my fellow bloggers here at b5 media’s science and health channel have had something to say about the subject as well. While their info might not be directed towards diabetics, it is worth having a peek at.
Kristen at Lively Women offers up how diet soda is not exactly the best choice for anyone. She is totally grossed out by all the findings that link the lovely little calorie free brown beverage to heart disease and other health issues.
And then Sara at Healthbolt blasted diet soda last week as well. She even went on to describe that diet soda changes your DNA and could cause you to gain more weight then regular soda. Hmm… I don’t get all of it, but it is worth checking out!
With all of the new research that goes along with diet soda, will you cut your consumption of the bubbly, yummy beverage? It is still a tough call for me. Is it the caffeine, the fake sweetener or just the soda itself? Because diet iced tea will have the artificial sweetener and in some cases the caffeine, so who knows! I already drink about 20 glasses of water a day, but I need a change every once in a while. And I am not going to lie, I love the way diet Coke, especially fountain diet, feels in my mouth and how it gives me that mid afternoon pick me up. How ’bout you?

Thanks for the link, babe!
I’m totally stumped on this issue! I LOVE my Diet Coke (fountain, of course) but I’ve found that since I’ve been taking Symlin it has reeeeally made me very sensitive to the caffeine….what to do??
*sigh* Just another thing for me to wonder whether or not I should give up. My 25th year on this earth has brought some major changes, many of them dealing with what I put in my body. Fortunately, I’ve taken these changes in stride, and eventually welcomed most of them.
By the way, you’ve been tagged for a b5media blog specific meme - check out the details over at http://www.mentalhealthnotes.com/?p=241
I used to love diet coke. But over the last year I’ve been changing my eating habits and I can’t even begin to tell the drastic changes I’ve had in my mood, life and blood sugar.
In regards to diet sodas I did a little experiment a few months back and switched to water. I immediately noticed a difference in my mood and saw my blood sugar get more stable. I wasn’t even drinking that much, maybe a can a day.
I’m not sure exactly what it was either but it made quite an impact on me. I thought I would miss it but as with any new habit you get used to it. Now drinking water is just the same except now I feel better.
