Discovery – Recovery

One of my favorite tapes (and I’d love to find another copy) is that of Sean A. from California. I was able to identify with Sean’s childhood and the ability to ignore things long enough so they “disappeared.” I had the same “ability,” probably because I grew up in a similar family…

Sean spoke of rehabs and detoxes having a purpose. Before I say what that purpose was, please don’t mis-perceive. I feel much the same as Sean expressed – rehabs are at the front line of the battle against these types of diseases and I won’t diminish them. But – there is a bigger picture.

Their purpose? Discovery.

If you have the opportunity, if you can get past the denial, if you can let go of that immensely thick head on your shoulders for a short time and can get to a rehab or a detox – go. While you’re there, discover everything you can about the disease of alcoholism or drug addiction. Leave with a world full of knowledge packed between your ears – please!

As soon as possible, again, please, come visit us. Because AA, NA (12 step fellowships) and the Twelve Steps also have a purpose.

Their purpose is Recovery.

From pg. 65 in the 12 and 12;

“So Step Six – ‘Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character’ – is AA’s way of stating the best possible attitude one can take in order to make a beginning on this lifetime job.”

A Sober, Clean Day To All,

Mark
