Display More Ornaments This Year

Unless you’re a young newlywed, you’ve likely collected many holiday ornaments by now. I find myself having to make the tough decision of which ornaments to display and which to put back away in the storage container.

Mainly, I have that issue since I decide to put up only a very small tree so that I don’t have issues with my cat attacking it. However, I think this may be a common issue even for some families who choose to decorate with large Christmas trees. Maybe you don’t want to put the cardinals on the tree this year. Perhaps you’re going with a bell theme instead? There’s room for a new theme elsewhere.

Here are some ideas on getting those ornaments out of the box. After all, if you’re not using them, you might as well give them away to someone who will.

• Decorate a large wreath with unused holiday ornaments. Pick a theme like reindeer or elves if you have enough ornaments to do so. Fasten the ornaments to the wreath, finish off with a nice bow, then securely hang the wreath above your fireplace or any other area that’s calling out for Christmas sparkle.
• If you don’t like the idea of more greenery, skip the actual wreath. Instead, create a wreath made entirely of ornaments. Balls are perfect for this. See the Better Homes and Gardens article, Make a Christmas Wreath with Ornaments for instructions.
• If your kids have a playroom or other special area designated for play, let them decorate their very own Kids’ Christmas tree this year (with supervision, of course). Unbreakable ornaments are the best for this project.
• Decorate garland with ornaments and run it along your stairwell or above doorways.
