Flourescent bulbs have been the top and popular choice for the past years. The thing is, such a type of light bulb actually last longer and they also do assist the home owner in saving energy and money.

However, there is one thing we did not quite know about flourescent bulbs. Tammy Trublood of a store in San Diego shares, “The downside of the energy saving light bulbs is that mercury that it contains.”Yes, flourescent bulbs has mercury in them and it contains around 5 milligrams of the metal in it.

Such a discovery has then led legislators of California to actually have a state law which them asks of the mandatory recycling of all flourescent bulbs that have burned out or have already broken. Nora Varner of the San Diego Environmental Services says, “For business and residential customers, these contain mercury and they need to go to a proper location for disposal.”
