DIY Solar Powered Jack-o-Lantern

solar powered jack o lantern

In preparation for Halloween,  I was looking for a project that I can do which combines “unpluggedliving” and Halloween.  I then thought of doing a solar powered jack-o-lantern.    I think that would be a simple yet cool project.     Definitely, somebody has done this already so I’ld better check trusty old google  for a solar powered jack-o-lantern.

I found 2  DIY solar powered jack-o-lantern projects in instructables.

The idea is to use one of those solar garden lights and dismantle it to use the solar cell, battery, and light bulb (usually LEDs).  The typical light on a solar garden light is “white” so it would probably look better if you put in a yellow, orange, or red celophane and cover the light source with it.

Hmm…I got an idea.  If you happen to make one of these solar jack-o-lanterns,  send me a note so I can feature it here in unpluggedliving.

  32. Deborah says:

Great idea! I’ve never liked the thought of open flame candles, and flashlights and batteries are too much trouble. This is a cool idea not only for jack-o’lanterns but at Christmas too – I see no reason why Rudolph’s nose couldn’t be solar-powered as well. :)

  33. Heather C says:

Interesting… I always thought solar lights weren’t all that bright.
