DMB Takes a Stand Against Inadequate Mental Health Care

I just received a fabulous Sunday afternoon surprise.

I am a huge fan of Dave Matthews Band, and so naturally I’m subscribed to the DMB newsletters. I’ve grown to expect each one I receive to be similar to the ones before it – concert dates, new merchandise, band updates, etc. and so forth.

What I didn’t expect was to receive the following message in a DMB newsletter:

We have been disturbed by the stories that continue to surface about the medical care being received by our returning servicemen and women. Supporting our troops entails providing them with the complete, timely and excellent care for injuries they sustained during their military service, at the very least. Providing this care is a moral obligation for our nation and should be our highest priority at home. For further information and to read the petition that we will ultimately send to the Secretary of Defense and members of Congress, click here.

We hope you will join us in encouraging the Secretary of Defense and members of Congress to report on medical care benefits for US Veterans of War.

Once you click to read and sign the petition, you’ll find:

As an example of our concerns, recent stories are alleging that some servicemen and women are being misdiagnosed as having pre-existing personality disorders. However, the evidence suggests that they may be suffering from injuries related to their service. This diagnosis has resulted in these soldiers losing medical benefits.

This is just one more reason for all of us to love those guys! Be sure to sign the petition and help our soldiers get the proper physical AND mental health care they need and deserve!
