Do It Yourself Dad

One of the great parts about being a dad that stays home is getting to fix things more easily. Or at least if you need to call a plumber or an electrician you can be right there when he comes in. I have found that things get fixed a lot quicker being home. I am not trying to say that I am comepletely handy but I have to live with the issues. It isn’t like I can say “out of sight out of mind,” since I see it most of the day.

Things you can do is pick up “do-it-yourself” books. One that always comes in handy is Home Improvement 1-2-3: Expert Advice from the Home Depot. That way if you need to get parts you can toss your kid(s) in the car and head off to the Home Depot.

Sounds like a fun day at the office to me.

I actually have that book and use it pretty regularly. My project plan normally involves me disconnecting or taking out whatever I am fixing. Looking it up how to reattach the item in the book and when I get confused with that, call my dad who is a hobby carpenter and professional home inspector. If all of that fails, I move.

This site is great! I found it while looking for a site for Dads who enjoy building things for their kids like plans for tree houses/forts, swings, bunkbeds with a slide, theme dressers and so on. I’m going to build a couple of go carts with electric motors for my 2 sons. If you know of any sites that would help me please let me know.

    Thanks,
    David of Troutdale, OR
